Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at La Mar San Francisco

This September and October, La Mar celebrates the cultures, traditions and communities that continue to shape the Bay Area through food, music, dance and shared experiences.

Every year from September 15 through October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States. The celebration begins in mid-September to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, making the month a moment to recognize both the diversity of the region and the many traditions that have traveled, evolved and found new expressions across generations.

In the Bay Area, those influences are everywhere — in the food we eat, the music we listen to, the businesses that shape our neighborhoods and the communities that bring them to life.

For La Mar, whose roots begin in Peru but whose table has always been about bringing people together, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate that broader story. This year, our San Francisco waterfront becomes a gathering place for Afro-Peruvian dance, Latin American spirits, food, music and community, with a series of experiences taking place throughout September and October.

Dance Class with Cunamacué

Our celebration begins with rhythm and movement.}

La Mar is teaming up with Cunamacué, the Oakland-based Afro-Peruvian dance company, for a one-hour class exploring two beloved traditional styles: the playful Zamacueca and the high-energy Festejo.

Led by Cunamacué’s instructors and accompanied by live percussion, the class welcomes dancers of every level — no previous experience required. More than learning the steps, it is an opportunity to experience traditions that have helped preserve and celebrate Afro-Peruvian identity through generations.

Afterward, guests are invited to stay, mingle and enjoy hosted drinks and bites from La Mar.

Spirits of Latin America Workshop

The story continues behind the bar.

From Peru’s pisco to rum and tequila, Latin America’s spirits reflect the ingredients, traditions and histories of the places where they were created.

Join La Mar Beverage Director Uriel Serrano for a hands-on journey through three of the region’s most iconic spirits. Guests will shake, stir and sip their way through three cocktails, each built around a different spirit and offering a taste of the diversity behind Latin American drinking traditions.

Whether you’re a cocktail enthusiast or simply curious to learn more, the workshop offers another way to explore Latin America — one glass at a time.

Entre Amigos: A Hispanic Food & Music Celebration

Sunday, October 11 · 12–3 PM

To bring the celebration together, we’re opening our waterfront patio for an afternoon centered on what Hispanic Heritage Month is ultimately about for us: sharing culture and creating community around the table.

Entre Amigos brings together La Mar, Telefèric Barcelona, Pacifico and Xica, celebrating different expressions of Hispanic and Latin American cuisine found across the Bay Area.

Throughout the afternoon, guests can graze their way through signature bites from each restaurant while enjoying live music and dancing overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

The afternoon will also support the community beyond La Mar. A portion of proceeds will benefit La Cocina, the San Francisco nonprofit that helps talented food entrepreneurs — particularly women, immigrants and people of color — build sustainable food businesses.
